'tis the season to be jolly

With the line up for Awakenings Festival including some names such as Oxia, Oliver Huntemann, Stephen Bodzin, Adam Beyer and Richie Hawtin, there is no reason for anyone to not be flipping burgers at the mere thought of all those artists in the same place at the one time. The festival itself was on the 28th of June and here below i have searched far and wide across the internet to give to you my favorite's.

White Dorks

This is what you get when you check your inbox!! :)
White Dorks are so much more than their name would suggest. In fact, their chosen title is positively misleading. White Dorks can’t help but do things that are hotter, fresher and less dorky than everything else.

White Dorks are DJs Dan Only and Frankee More. In 2004, they came together with a mission to create a new sound. The new sound was to be called dorkinbuzzfunkinpopelectrstuffinstuff and was to include everything from pop, hip hop, uncut funk mashed with electro, breaks and house. Throwing in acapellas, samples and loops, and tweaked out with effects, dorkinbuzzfunkinpopelectrstuffinstuff is now the biggest thing you’ve ever heard of.

Live, White Dorks have an innovative, all-in-one DJ style. Working together and using accapellas on most tracks, they make each song their own and every set memorable. The White Dorks are also keen producers and have begun embarking on a very exciting journey into production, of which you can expect the end result to be huge.

2008 has seen the white dorks perform at Sounds on New Years Day where they supported acts Tim Sea, Muscles, Ajax & Felix the Housecat (USA). The white dorks also performed at Sydney's Good Vibrations Festival where they warmed up for Kid Kenobi and Mc Shureshock infornt if a packed stage.

The White Dorks have had numerous club appearance through out Sydney, Space night club, Candy's Apartment, Moulin Rouge, The Bourban, World Bar, Havana Bar, Sand Bar, Chinese Laundry and Sounds on Sunday. During these appearance The Dorks have supported Tittsworth (USA), Felix the housecat (USA), Toxic Avenger (Fra), Yusek (FRA), Outlaws (UK), Bag Raiders, Bang Gang, Muscles, PNAU, Sam La More (Tonite Only) and Funktrust just to name a select few whos who of international and local Dj talent.

Here is some of their tracks and a mix for good measure!

Martin Eyerer

Last night i went to see Martin Eyerer in the most intimate show i have ever attended. It was at 'elsewhere' on the coast and i think at the most, on the dance floor, there would have been 15 people. It was such a great way to wrap up a big weekend, with some solid minimal/techno. He played a well rounded set and managed to mix in a few of his big tracks such as Babylon and The Island.

Here is one of his tracks Chorizo (the paul nazca remix). ENJOY!

like we always do it this time

Kanye West blew onto the scene years ago now, but his music has always amazed me. His ability to take any beat, any phrase and turn it into a chart topper is incredible. Along with all his original tracks has come a whole load of remixes, nothing like this one though! Orgasmic is a French producer/dj and his crafty cut and paste/glitch up of Kanye's "The good Life" in "Feels like Saint Tropez" is off the chain, a must have....Also, for proper gear heads, check the video i posted of Rosco P. Coldchain a few weeks ago and check Kanye's section, SO GOOD, these guys are so tight with their words.

cop 'em then rock 'em

I have been a fan of charlie fanclub since I got my hands on a tight remix of surkin's radiofireworks by him. Here is another fresh remix by him.

On a lighter note, "it ain't where you put your words, it's where you don't". I first stumbled across Dilated Peoples as a beady-eyed 13 yr old. Dj babu's out of this world production, beats and scratching was the beginning of the end. They stole my hip-hop heart and have never ceased to impress since.

100th post

It has been one year and nine months since concretefish begun. It has been one year and nine months of fun. The musical taste of the fish has changed and matured. The blog itself has evolved and morphed into an expression of the now, well at least in my life; think of this as a thought process, think of concretefish as an electronic extension of my head and where its at!
With that said, my head is loving prog/techno/minimal and of course always rap - hip hop.
Here is a downloadable smorgasbord of what i listen to, have listened to and will listen to at a lengthy extent nearly everyday of my life.

Mornings:
Cowboys - Dusty Kid
Omega man - Fred Falke and Savage

Connexion - Pryda

A solid new track from the lord himself. New information regarding "the journey", which was originally leaked from one of his sets in Croatia has surfaced. Prydz has announced that he will release the track after alot of speculation, not under his alias of pryda but rather under Cirez D.

It wasnt until last night, that i had actually sat down and listened to this remix. Its been sitting in my "to listen" playlist for over a month now. I don't know why i didn't give it a go earlier this year, but i'm happy i have now. Top quality track that stays true to Deadmau5's style of progressive production harmony. =]

A re-newed love of skating has come over me. Getting a birdhouse carver this week. Should provide entertainment for me and those around me for a while. I haven't been posting long posts at all since i restarted the blog but thats changing.

Solid new techno. No complaints.

New supreme lids have come into my possession. Check the new box hats that are a part of their new summer collection. I got the plaid one a few weeks ago.
In other news, Celtis are 2-1 in the current series against Detroit, with a game tonight. Their triumph over the Pistons on the weekend was their first win on the road all playoffs. I have $100 on them wining the entire season. all fingers and toes are crossed and whatnot. hahaha

nighttt drive

The two bothers, Pavel & Vitaliy, formed Moonbeam in 2003 in Nizhny Novgorod.

During a long period of time the brothers worked hard in a studio, attracting different kinds of vocalists from all over the world to create music. That contributed a lot to the positive results of the project creativity. In summer, 2003 Vitaliy and Pavel started to work with Chris Lunsford from California, who is the author of the lyrics and vocalist in the range of compositions, including the Moonbeam debut record “Raven Gipsy EP”, which was released in June 2005 at a Portuguese Label Feed Me Records. In some time the same year there were released two more Moonbeam plates at English Labels of Dirty Blue Records and Distraektions Records.

In the end of 2005 Moonbeam launched their own label - Moonbeam Digital. The Label has two branches: Disoma Records and Moon Tribal Records. Among the Label’s artists there are some new ones as well as some renowned producers, such as Jeff Bennett, Stephan Hinz, LeRon & Yves Eaux, Clubbervision and others. The Label releases got support from many famous DJs: Flash Brothers, Hernan Cattaneo, Moshic, Hell, Mashtronic, D-Nox, Fred Numf, Deepgroove, Subsky, Rene Amesz and many others.

The year of 2006 – is the period for multiple digital and vinyl releases at such labels as Mashtronic, Regular, Flow Vinyl, Pure Substance, Toes in the Sand, Mezzotinto and others. In autumn of 2006 the Universal Music Switzerland signed a contract with Moonbeam for release of a vocal single “Malaria” in ’Private Fiction Vol.3’ compilation. At the same time Sharam included remix of Jiva feat Rula - "Timelapse" (Moonbeam presents Glockenspiel Mix) into compilation Global Underground 029 Dubai. A little later, Moonbeam signed a contract with International Deejay Gigolo Records for the release of a new track from Moonbeam presents PAK&VAK - "Vision" (Main Mix). This track will be included into the 10th compilation of Gigolo Records.

2007 was a great success for Moonbeam. This year the Moonbeam signed up to a famous German label Traum Schallplatten, through which they released 3 records, including “Eclipse EP” and remixes of ’Minilogue – Seconds’ and ’Extrawelt - Doch Doch’. In a short time Moonbeam got contracts with top labels like Black Hole Recordings, Be Yourself Music, Kickin Music and Proton Music. In summer of 2007 Tiesto included Moonbeam – “See the Difference Inside” into legendary compilation In Search of Sunrise 6 Ibiza. Later the Moonbeam showed up in Jimmy Van M’s Balance 10.1, High Contrast presents...JOOP, Cosmic Gate ’Back 2 Back volume 3’. Meanwhile Moonbeam started working on remixes for Rachael Starr, Mr Sam, Lens, Marcus Schossow, RPO and others. In spring 2007 Moonbeam launching a monthly 3-hours show “Moonbeam Music” on the best radio online Proton Radio. (taken from moonbeam's myspace)

Threeeeeeeee Stackkkkkks

Three Stacks, Brisbane born and raised? probably best describes himself.
"I'm Harry.. I like fuckin' around with the music I love, and here are the results. I also "DJ", so if you want me to do a party or something leave a message, because I'll probably be more than happy to, given that i have shit else goin on right now. I have these two edits so far...

1. Scissor Sisters - She's My Cream [Three Stacks Live Edit] This first one is my edit of the goose remix of "She's My Man" by The Scissors Sisters, where I changed up the drums, vocals and geeeetar, just generally making it a tad more bangin'. Adding to that noise, I put "Cream" by Federico Franchi underneath it.

2. Whitenoise - It's What We Do [Three Stacks Skitzo Edit]. I spaced up a bit of this banger by Whitenoise, and put down those hell catchy "Disco" vocals from "Skitzo Dancer" by Scenario Rock... Tell me what you think guys."

mark ronson

Ronson grew up (in New York, where he moved at 8) closely around music, as his stepfather was "Foreigner" Mick Jones. As a teen, Ronson describes himself as "bookish musically". Attending Vassar College New York University (NYU), Ronson became a regular at downtown hip-hop spots and made his name as a DJ on the New York club scene in 1993. He was soon one of the most respected DJs and was being called on for celebrities' private parties. Ronson is known for his diverse, genre-spanning selection, influenced by both the hip-hop scene of New York and the more rock influence of the UK, amongst others.
He moved on, however, to producing music. After producing Nikka Costa's "Everybody Got Their Something," Ronson signed a record contract with Elektra Records. His first album Here Comes the Fuzz was released in 2003 and was a critically acclaimed success that featured artists of all genres, despite initially poor sales. The most well known song from the album, "Ooh Wee" samples Sunny by Boney M and features Nate Dogg, Ghostface Killah, and Trife Da God. He has since produced multiple songs on the albums of singers Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, and Robbie Williams. Ronson's second album, Version ", which was released in the UK on 16 April 2007 includes other covers of a diverse selection of rock & pop songs including: Kaiser Chiefs' "Oh My God" (featuring guest vocals from Lily Allen), Coldplay's "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face", Britney Spears' "Toxic", Ryan Adams' "Amy", Maxïmo Park's "Apply Some Pressure", The Zutons'Valerie" and Kasabian's "L.S.

"Thieves Like Us" - probably best describe themselves - "Thieves Like Us met each other in Berlin in 2002. We met in Mauer Park. Two of us are from Sweden. One is from the United States. We were friends hanging out in a vast foreign city. We struggled with the language and the culture. We we hadn't registered our residencies at the local city hall so we couldn't even get memberships at a videotek. We were fans of rock and pop music and would try to find places to go out drinking and dancing, but all we would hear is techno and electro. The women didn't seem to like us at all. We started deejaying ourselves. We would play old krautrock (nobody recognized it), italo disco, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Factory Records stuff, and even new hip-hop. Later on we discovered French filter house and added this to our repertoire. Our cross over dj sets really seemed to bother the Berliners. Maybe it was the inconsistency in bpms. In Berlin, we heard and saw enough electronic music we didn't like. We thought we could do it better so we started our own band. Unable to gain a label or following in Berlin, we have temporarily relocated to New York City. Thieves Like Us will soon be seeking asylum in France. THIS IS HOW IT IT IS RIGHT NOW... "

R.A.T.M.

Not many people know this fact about the author of this blog - BUT - I own every single Rage Against the Machine album ever released, including live at the Grand Olympic auditorium, along with 4 posters, 2 DVD's and a t-shirt. Rage preoccupied the entirety of my life for the end of year 6 and the whole of year 7 (big-ups to cotterell). In saying that - here is a dedication to them with 2 tracks from their self-titled album, 2 tracks from their live album (the sound engineering was terrible) and 2 pretty good remixes that have recently been thrashed by every dj from here to Nigeria and back.
