mark ronson

Ronson grew up (in New York, where he moved at 8) closely around music, as his stepfather was "Foreigner" Mick Jones. As a teen, Ronson describes himself as "bookish musically". Attending Vassar College New York University (NYU), Ronson became a regular at downtown hip-hop spots and made his name as a DJ on the New York club scene in 1993. He was soon one of the most respected DJs and was being called on for celebrities' private parties. Ronson is known for his diverse, genre-spanning selection, influenced by both the hip-hop scene of New York and the more rock influence of the UK, amongst others.
He moved on, however, to producing music. After producing Nikka Costa's "Everybody Got Their Something," Ronson signed a record contract with Elektra Records. His first album Here Comes the Fuzz was released in 2003 and was a critically acclaimed success that featured artists of all genres, despite initially poor sales. The most well known song from the album, "Ooh Wee" samples Sunny by Boney M and features Nate Dogg, Ghostface Killah, and Trife Da God. He has since produced multiple songs on the albums of singers Christina Aguilera, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, and Robbie Williams. Ronson's second album, Version ", which was released in the UK on 16 April 2007 includes other covers of a diverse selection of rock & pop songs including: Kaiser Chiefs' "Oh My God" (featuring guest vocals from Lily Allen), Coldplay's "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face", Britney Spears' "Toxic", Ryan Adams' "Amy", Maxïmo Park's "Apply Some Pressure", The Zutons'Valerie" and Kasabian's "L.S.

Here is a mini mix that he did for BBC's RADIO1 :

"Christopher Brave" (Member of Stray and Grass and Bagraiders) has been making some cool music over the past year or so. To my knowledge he hasn't release anything (officially) as yet... But hopefully something will come - its good stufffff.

"What She Wants" - Christopher Brave

"Thieves Like Us" - probably best describe themselves - "Thieves Like Us met each other in Berlin in 2002. We met in Mauer Park. Two of us are from Sweden. One is from the United States. We were friends hanging out in a vast foreign city. We struggled with the language and the culture. We we hadn't registered our residencies at the local city hall so we couldn't even get memberships at a videotek. We were fans of rock and pop music and would try to find places to go out drinking and dancing, but all we would hear is techno and electro. The women didn't seem to like us at all. We started deejaying ourselves. We would play old krautrock (nobody recognized it), italo disco, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Factory Records stuff, and even new hip-hop. Later on we discovered French filter house and added this to our repertoire. Our cross over dj sets really seemed to bother the Berliners. Maybe it was the inconsistency in bpms. In Berlin, we heard and saw enough electronic music we didn't like. We thought we could do it better so we started our own band. Unable to gain a label or following in Berlin, we have temporarily relocated to New York City. Thieves Like Us will soon be seeking asylum in France. THIS IS HOW IT IT IS RIGHT NOW... "

R.A.T.M.

Not many people know this fact about the author of this blog - BUT - I own every single Rage Against the Machine album ever released, including live at the Grand Olympic auditorium, along with 4 posters, 2 DVD's and a t-shirt. Rage preoccupied the entirety of my life for the end of year 6 and the whole of year 7 (big-ups to cotterell). In saying that - here is a dedication to them with 2 tracks from their self-titled album, 2 tracks from their live album (the sound engineering was terrible) and 2 pretty good remixes that have recently been thrashed by every dj from here to Nigeria and back.

Killing in the name (Original) - R.A.T.M.

Know Your Enemy - R.A.T.M.

Calm Like A Bomb (Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium) - R.A.T.M.

Killing In The Name (Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium) - R.A.T.M.

Killing In The Name Of (Sharam Jey Remix) - R.A.T.M.
