Little known fact: Windows 3.0 could be installed on the original LTE 286 if one secured the CGA driver from Microsoft. Installation was a little tricky because the buttons in one of the installation boxes were off the screen, but if you knew they were there, you could move the box and complete the install.

"How far can it fall? People have been anxiously wondering as they watch the plunging stock market. But increasingly the same question is being asked about another crucial figure: the price of oil. It has plummeted nearly 40% in just three months, from about $147 a barrel in July to below $83 on Friday, with no obvious bottom in sight. If that sounds good, you are probably a driver who winces these days at filling your gas tank. But the downward spiral could mean trouble for oil-rich countries and for the environment.

Oil analysts admit that most of them failed to predict how fast oil prices would drop. Just a few months ago, some were saying oil might reach $200 a barrel by year's end. "The analysts have been quite surprised by the pace and volatility of the decline," says David Fyfe, senior oil analyst for the International Energy Agency in Paris, which as a rule does not predict oil prices. "The volatility has been quite marked."

This year's sky-high oil prices are partly responsible for the drop. Since oil hit $100 a barrel for the first time early this year, Americans (who consume one-quarter of the world's energy) began cutting back. When gas began selling above $4 a gallon, American consumers made "a psychological shift into the sense of crisis and a sense of permanence," says Greg Priddy, oil analyst for the Eurasia Group in Washington. Instead of believing that gas prices would finally fall again, many began changing their daily habits — they started driving the smaller car in a two-car garage or consolidating shopping trips. That has meant a huge slump in Americans' gas use. Even before the market meltdown, Americans consumed 800,000 barrels of oil a day less during the first half of this year than the same period last year. As demand fell, so did prices, and as prices have fallen, investors have begun pulling money out of the oil market, fearing a collapse, says Leila Benali, an expert on Middle East oil for the Cambridge Energy Research Associates in Paris, adding: "People are getting nervous about demand next year. There is talk of a global recession."

For oil-rich countries the slump has come at a bad time. As the oil price began rising during the past few years, governments and big oil companies plowed billions into exploring and developing new fields in Russia, Angola, Mexico, Brazil and Saudi Arabia — projects whose costs have more than doubled in the past few years, in part because soaring steel prices drove up drilling equipment costs and oil-rig rentals. Just as global demand has begun to slow, millions more barrels of oil a day from new fields have hit the world market.

The big oil producers have good reason to be nervous. Many are still haunted by a disastrous error made at an Opec meeting in Jakarta in 1999, when the cartel — which produces more than a third of the world's oil — opted to raise its production levels. Within weeks Asian stock markets tumbled, driving world oil prices down to $11 a barrel. Oil officials in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere have cited that price crash as the reason they've rebuffed pleas from President Bush to pump more oil. Says Benali: "Countries have learned the lessons of the past."

Though oil-producers and environmentalists rarely agree about anything, both groups have done extremely well from sky-high oil prices during the past year. The high price at U.S. gas pumps has pushed both Barack Obama and John McCain into making the development of alternative fuels and electric cars key elements of their campaign platforms. But if gas prices continue to drop, those initiatives might begin to seem unnecessarily costly to many Americans. (Time's Bryan Walsh reported this week that some countries are already reviewing environmental initiatives as gas prices fall.) "If gas prices drop under $3 a gallon, it will be interesting to see whether it saps the political will," says Priddy. "Americans like their sprawl and generally don't like to give those things up."

If oil producers have their way, oil prices could start rising again. Their growing anxiety erupted early this week, when Iranian and Venezuelan officials warned that if Opec waited much longer before cutting its output, it could face another massive price collapse. On Thursday, Opec officials scheduled an emergency meeting in Vienna for Nov. 18 rather than wait until the cartel's scheduled summit in Algiers in early December. In the meantime, the world's biggest oil producer, Saudi Arabia — which increased production in the summer — has already begun loading less oil on its tankers, according to global oil figures.

For some countries there is a fear far greater than an economic recession: political turmoil. Iran, which earns 80% of its revenues from oil exports, set this year's budget on the assumption that oil would trade at $90 a barrel — a figure which seemed conservatively low until recently, but which is now above the world price. "If the price stays there a while Iran would cut spending," Priddy says. That might include cutting heavy gas subsidies for Iranian drivers, who have rioted in the past when the government tried to ration gas or raise the price at the pump. Hugo Chavez could face similar problems in Venezuela if oil prices drop below $75 a barrel — the rate at which the country calculated this year's budget. The problems lower prices could cause in those countries could be more visceral than those posed so far by the current financial upheaval."

Ill be traveling for the next week and a half. But i will be posting! I found this site the other night, which is basically a devotion to Svën and Cocoon. Its a sweet site for downloading techno mixes and just reading about the Cocoon community from another perspective.

The main man himself, Juan Atkins, the godfather of electronic music, hailing from ~~"east-oakland, california and um..."~~ Detroit, is going to kick this post off, with his 1985 killer track "Time Space Transmat". Look out for "Clear", which is one of his 1982 releases under the alias Cybotron, which featured on the Diplo Fabric Mix at the beginning of 2007. So i have been unable to update due to a few technical difficulties this week. I promise that the blog will be back up and running properly by wednesday. That is all i can disclose at the moment.

In other news, people should also get on youtube and check out Sebastian Leger's recent experience in Croatia at the 'Creamfields - Central Europe Festival'. An "apocalyptic storm" hit the festival in the middle of his set and he managed, along with a few others to capture the event on camera. A hint, look for the video of the view from the crowd, and check the massive pole with material on it that falls down an axes him on the decks. HECTIC SHIT.

"Brought up in Brooklyn's Marcy Projects, Jay-Z got his break in the music business in the late '80s when a fellow Marcy resident, 'The Jaz', got a record deal and had Jay-Z appear on a few tracks. This period gave him experiences which formed the basis for much of his later material. During this time he did keep his hand in the game, appearing on a track with Big Daddy Kane and with the group Original Flavor, but it wasn't until the mid-90's that Jay-Z's focus really returned to hip-hop. In 1996 he teamed up with Damon Dash and Kareem Burke to start a new label, Roc-A-Fella Records.

Jay-Z then steadily built on his initial success, releasing album after album and bringing through new artists on his label, as well as expanding into merchandising, clothing and other sources of revenue. In 2003, at the peak of his career, Jay-Z released what he claimed would be his last album, 'The Black Album' to international acclaim. In 2006 he came back from retirement to release the album 'Kingdom Come'. It was well received by the public, selling over a million copies, but garnered some criticism from hip-hop fans in regards to Jay-Z's new 'mature' style. A year later he released the concept album 'American Gangster'. Jay-Z was allegedly inspired to make the album after watching the film of the same name, and the album focuses on similar themes as of the film."

I was introduced to Jay-Z as a 14 year old. I think that his style has really influenced my appreciation of rap music, along with my musical tastes in general. Here are a few tracks that compliment "Z" and his style.

Last night i went to see Martin Eyerer in the most intimate show i have ever attended. It was at 'elsewhere' on the coast and i think at the most, on the dance floor, there would have been 15 people. It was such a great way to wrap up a big weekend, with some solid minimal/techno. He played a well rounded set and managed to mix in a few of his big tracks such as Babylon and The Island.

Kanye West blew onto the scene years ago now, but his music has always amazed me. His ability to take any beat, any phrase and turn it into a chart topper is incredible. Along with all his original tracks has come a whole load of remixes, nothing like this one though! Orgasmic is a French producer/dj and his crafty cut and paste/glitch up of Kanye's "The good Life" in "Feels like Saint Tropez" is off the chain, a must have....Also, for proper gear heads, check the video i posted of Rosco P. Coldchain a few weeks ago and check Kanye's section, SO GOOD, these guys are so tight with their words.

It has been one year and nine months since concretefish begun. It has been one year and nine months of fun. The musical taste of the fish has changed and matured. The blog itself has evolved and morphed into an expression of the now, well at least in my life; think of this as a thought process, think of concretefish as an electronic extension of my head and where its at!

The two bothers, Pavel & Vitaliy, formed Moonbeam in 2003 in Nizhny Novgorod.

During a long period of time the brothers worked hard in a studio, attracting different kinds of vocalists from all over the world to create music. That contributed a lot to the positive results of the project creativity. In summer, 2003 Vitaliy and Pavel started to work with Chris Lunsford from California, who is the author of the lyrics and vocalist in the range of compositions, including the Moonbeam debut record “Raven Gipsy EP”, which was released in June 2005 at a Portuguese Label Feed Me Records. In some time the same year there were released two more Moonbeam plates at English Labels of Dirty Blue Records and Distraektions Records.

In the end of 2005 Moonbeam launched their own label - Moonbeam Digital. The Label has two branches: Disoma Records and Moon Tribal Records. Among the Label’s artists there are some new ones as well as some renowned producers, such as Jeff Bennett, Stephan Hinz, LeRon & Yves Eaux, Clubbervision and others. The Label releases got support from many famous DJs: Flash Brothers, Hernan Cattaneo, Moshic, Hell, Mashtronic, D-Nox, Fred Numf, Deepgroove, Subsky, Rene Amesz and many others.

The year of 2006 – is the period for multiple digital and vinyl releases at such labels as Mashtronic, Regular, Flow Vinyl, Pure Substance, Toes in the Sand, Mezzotinto and others. In autumn of 2006 the Universal Music Switzerland signed a contract with Moonbeam for release of a vocal single “Malaria” in ’Private Fiction Vol.3’ compilation. At the same time Sharam included remix of Jiva feat Rula - "Timelapse" (Moonbeam presents Glockenspiel Mix) into compilation Global Underground 029 Dubai. A little later, Moonbeam signed a contract with International Deejay Gigolo Records for the release of a new track from Moonbeam presents PAK&VAK - "Vision" (Main Mix). This track will be included into the 10th compilation of Gigolo Records.

2007 was a great success for Moonbeam. This year the Moonbeam signed up to a famous German label Traum Schallplatten, through which they released 3 records, including “Eclipse EP” and remixes of ’Minilogue – Seconds’ and ’Extrawelt - Doch Doch’. In a short time Moonbeam got contracts with top labels like Black Hole Recordings, Be Yourself Music, Kickin Music and Proton Music. In summer of 2007 Tiesto included Moonbeam – “See the Difference Inside” into legendary compilation In Search of Sunrise 6 Ibiza. Later the Moonbeam showed up in Jimmy Van M’s Balance 10.1, High Contrast presents...JOOP, Cosmic Gate ’Back 2 Back volume 3’. Meanwhile Moonbeam started working on remixes for Rachael Starr, Mr Sam, Lens, Marcus Schossow, RPO and others. So, my laptop that i would have trusted with my life has spazzed out on me.... im now left listening to my ipod - which i hadnt updated in about 5 days - i know, its terrible..... send all your money to this account to help me get my laptop working.... JOKES

But on a serious note, i cant get into itunes/any sort of programes except trust Mozilla firefox.
